Star Behavioral Health Providers

website redesign

A refresh of the website design. The focus was to streamline the process. We wanted it to take fewer clicks to get the user to where they needed to go. The site was approaching 9 years of age and needed an update.

//problem space

SBHP is an online portal and database where military connected individuals can seek out trained civilian behavioral health clinicians.  The website was launched in 2011 and has been in use since then without a refresh.  There are two sections to the site – one for the providers to register for training(s), connect with resources, and another side for users to search for a provider.  Our team was tasked with updating the site and making the user flow more manageable-less clicks to get where you need to go.  We focused on the provider side of the website and suggested that the other part of the website be its own project altogether.  Our sponsor also asked that we keep within the constraints of their branding but still give the website a "makeover," in terms of user interaction.

//research

Interviews
We conducted interviews with military veterans provided by our sponsor to identify pain points as well as wants within the current website

Overall Takeaways

  1. Insurances accepted

  2. Distance to provider

  3. Ratings

Heuristic analysis
We utilized Neilson’s 10 heuristics to locate errors and avoid from making these mistakes in our redesign

Overall Takeaways

  1. Minimalist & aesthetic design

  2. Consistency & standards

  3. Match between system & real world

Content audit
We conducted a content audit to identify redundant information or could be combined with other pages.  This influenced our hierarchy for the redesign.

Competitive Analysis
After understanding the scope of our project and what our stakeholders wanted, we took a look at some similar models of sites that are currently out there.

//ideation

Our process consisted of individual sketches, coming together and collaborating, and then testing our designs.

Testing
To better understand our flow of finding a provider, we tested potential users.

Our takeaways

  1. Users appreciated the definition of different conditions

  2. Users were unaware they could select multiple conditions

  3. Filters may make the site seem cluttered

//solution

After iterating and considering our testing takeaways, we were proud to be able to show off our final prototype to SBHP!

Check out our final prototype walkthrough.
